looking at less well-known and rare trees and shrubs July 15, 2007

NOTE: this event will start at the Yonge street entrance to Mt Pleasant Cemetery, located on the east side of Yonge Street about 200 M north of St Clair Ave. Parallel parking inside the cemetery is allowed. There is also parallel parking on Yonge Street and local side streets and in local parking lots.

This is a second urban fieldtrip to look at a variety of trees and shrubs hardy in the Toronto region that are not often encountered and infrequently offered at the big-box or average garden centre. Mt Pleasant Cemetery is a 155 year old cemetery that is also a superb arboretum. The trees and shubs on the agenda for this field trip range from some that are becoming more widely used in landscape designs to others that have as yet barely penetrated the consciousness of local landscape designers (though elsewhere they are better appreciated). The life-cycle characteristics, ecology, and landscape uses of the trees and shrubs will be the focus of the fieldtrip. This event is open to everyone, although not advisable for children under 10 years of age, since there is extensive walking over the three hours of the fieldtrip.

There is a charge of $15.00 per person. Seniors, children under 15 and unwaged are exempted.
