The Crystal City BID is following up on last week’s successful Power Purge electronics recycling program - which collected 22 tons of hazardous electronics materials - with a volunteer clean-up of the Long Bridge Park area of Crystal City this Saturday from 8:30 to 11:30 AM.
The 2009 Long Bridge Park Clean-Up will follow last year’s cleanup along the Old Jefferson Davis Highway corridor. Last year’s event, which developed from a partnership with the local Canon office’s Clean Earth Campaign, collected nearly 5,000 pounds of liter and debris – the most ever collected through Canon’s volunteer program.
This year’s clean-up includes a partnership with one of the area’s largest landscape companies, Chapel Valley Landscaping. Chapel Valley will be providing staff, tools, and hauling service for collected materials. Chapel Valley’s expertise will also be tapped in the planned targeting of overgrown shrubs, weeds, and invasive species along the Old Jefferson Davis Highway right-of-way and choking a number of beautiful mature street trees.
Scheduled for Saturday, April 25th, the 2009 Long Bridge Park Clean-up is still welcoming volunteers looking to make a difference in the area. If you are interested in volunteering, please email rmandle@crystalcity.org by Friday, April 24th. Registered volunteers should meet at 8:30 AM in front of the Clark Street Playhouse in Arlington (601 Clark Street) for coffee and snacks and be prepared to assist until 11:30 AM.
