Saturday, July 3, 10am to 2pm, and every Saturday
The Beehive Market, is a weekly 'Bee' market (NOT a Flea). Unlike the limited scope of a farmer's market (strictly produce), or a flea market (only furniture, clothing and household goods), the 'Bee' market concept is a new category invented by co-founders Julia Fry and Isaac Cronin to broaden the definition of open air markets to be more inclusive of green lifestyles. In the same way bees fly from flower to flower cross pollinating and gathering honey, Beehive Market vendors offer everything for a sustainable localist lifestyle in one place: from fresh local organic produce to alternative transportation, ecofashion, organic personal care, garden supplies, natural pet and kids products, vegan delights and a fabulous food court, showcasing local bands.
Located in the heart of a dense residential community at the Berkeley Adult School at 1701 San Pablo Avenue in West Berkeley, neighbors easily walk over and shop for natural cleaning products, vegetables, check out the newest in electric cars and solar energy. The bus lines stop directly in front of the market, and Bart is nearby - making carless accessibility a breeze.
Food Court Vendors inclued Primos Parilla offering Argentinian style grilled meats, Mind Your Tongue With Viking Gumbo, Aidells Sausage and Grass Fed Organic Hamburgers, Scream Sorbet, Sarah Smart Vegan Ice Cream, Sling Super Premium Coffee, The Bread Project, Boffo Mediterranean Style Pizza, Cup Kates, Jamu's Javanese Health Drinks. Farmers include Lagier Ranch Almonds, Frog Hollow Farm, Rio De Parras greens, Marin Sun Farm Meats and Poultry and flowers from Paper Sun.
Every week a different local, indie band performs at noon. This week Beehive features the progressive hillbilly and country sounds of the B Stars.
