Local artist Cherie Salerno of River Grove has had an unyielding passion for the arts throughout her entire life. She has been showing her artwork since the ’80’s, and her latest focus is the North Riverside Mall Theatre, located at 7501 West Cermak Road, where her mixed media work will be on display in the lobby exhibit space throughout the month of April.
Salerno’s talent springs from her own infatuation with different art forms together with the influences of her mother, an accomplished seamstress, and her aunt, a gifted painter. She finds great pleasure in producing artwork with a perfect balance of uplifting colors and harmonious movement. “I most often paint to music. What I hear translates to different colors and moods,” explains Salerno. Her artwork on display at North Riverside Mall Theatre includes giclée prints created from her original mixed media. Each piece is a limited edition, embellished with various collage elements. Salerno will also be presenting a few original watercolor and acrylic works.
Salerno often participates in art shows throughout Chicagoland including the upcoming Oakbrook Invitational Show on Labor Day weekend. She is thrilled to be showing her works at the North Riverside Mall Theatre. “It is wonderful for my art to reach such a varied audience spanning different ages and cultures,” expresses Salerno.
Salerno received a degree in Graphic Art from Triton College. She completed her Fine Arts degree as a 1999 graduate of the School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Salerno strongly believes in giving back to society by sharing her talents through teaching others in her own private art studio.
