JON RAYMOND - Writer of MEEK’S CUTOFF, a film starring Michelle Williams, Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano and directed by Kelly Reichardt. Opening in theaters around the country on April 8, the film is a beautifully shot Western set on the Oregon Trail in 1845 and follows settlers on their way to build new lives in the Pacific Northwest. “The allegorical whiffs are unmistakable in ‘Meek’s Cutoff,’ from the hubris of Manifest Destiny and fear of the Other to the enduring tension between individual freedom and collective responsibility…’Meek’s Cutoff’ is revisionist in the best sense of that word, giving audiences a new way to see the past and, quite possibly, the present.” Raymond also wrote Old Joy and Wendy and Lucy.
WARD CUNNINGHAM - Inventor of the Wiki, a website that allows the creation and editing of any number of web pages using a web browser. Ward is currently the Chief Technology Officer for AboutUs.org, a wiki Internet domain directory
EMILY CHENOWETH - Writer and 2011 Oregon Book Award finalist for her novel “Hello Goodbye.” Emily’s work has appeared in Tin House, Bookforum and People, among other publications.
THIRD ANGLE ENSEMBLE with COMPOSER EVE BEGLARIAN - one of the Northwest’s foremost presenters of contemporary American music presents a with a piece from “One Mississippi…River As Muse” with composer Eve Beglarian. Eve spent 4 months paddling down the Mississippi recording sounds, interviewing people and writing music along the way.
ROCKY VOTOLATO - Seattle-based singer/songwriter. “His gravelly, sandpaper smooth voice and introspective lyrics mark him as that most rare of punk-rocker-turned-acoustic-troubadours...walking the line between autobiographical fact and fiction, his new album, true devotion, is deceptively simple, peppering impressionistic narratives with moments of lyrical wisdom that can knock the wind out of you.”
AGESANDAGES - Seven-piece Portland group fronted by Tim Perry (Pseudosix), their gorgeous layered harmonies and ecstatic energy that “feels like a big tent revival” has garnered them much attention in recent months. Their debut album Alright, You Restless was recorded in just 8 days with producer Kevin Robinson (Viva Voce, Blue Giant). This band is destined for greatness.
