To help Japan recover from earthquakes, tsunamis and aftershocks, Zeus Comics, the Web series "The Variants" and Billiard Bar are teaming up with the American Red Cross (ARC) to put on a Live Comic Art Jam and Auction. Several comic book artists will create art in front of a live audience April 22 at Billiard Bar. The art will then be auctioned to benefit the ARC.
"The comic book community has rallied around causes in the past and produced great work for good causes," said Richard Neal, owner of Zeus Comics and co-creator of "The Variants." "The people of Japan need help, so we're going to do what we can."
Several famous artists have been confirmed to perform at the Live Comic Art Jam, including James O'Barr ("The Crow"), Eisner nominee Joe Eisma ("Morning Glories"), Kristian Donaldson ("DMZ," "Supermarket," "The Guild"), Curt Franklin and Chris Haley ("Let's Be Friends Again"), RK Milholland ("Something Positive") and the North Texas art group Space-Gun Studios. The art will be sold via silent auction, and there will also be $5 "Easter Eggs" with numbers for mystery prizes.
In addition, several artists and writers who cannot attend have donated art, signed books and other gifts for the auction. DJ CeePee from Good Records will be on hand to provide music.
"We've gathered a lot of talent to help make this event a success," said Mr. Neal. "If past live art shows are any indication, this will be a night to remember."
The Live Art Jam and Auction will start at 9pm, April 22 and continue until midnight at Billiard Bar, located at 1920 Greenville Avenue.
