The U.S. Supreme Court’s infamous Kelo v. New London decision erased federal constitutional limits on the power of eminent domain while allowing the destruction of a working-class neighborhood. But it also touched off a national property rights revolution with Arizona at its epicenter. In his acclaimed book, Little Pink House, Jeff Benedict recounts the drama of the Kelo case, in which Susette Kelo and her neighbors fought the voracious regulators all the way up to the nation’s highest court. Commenting from an Arizona perspective on Benedict’s presentation will be Goldwater Institute litigation director Clint Bolick, who successfully litigated Bailey v. City of Mesa, which established strong protections against eminent domain abuse and led to the passage of the nation’s most sweeping protection of private property rights.
