Forget film, radio is the most visual medium. Also, it's cheaper to make. Without the need for costumes, sets, lighting, or even for actors to learn their lines, anyone can make a radioplay, right? Radio presents us with unique creative possibilities, especially in the area of radio drama. You can set a scene anywhere, but how will the audience know where it is? This workshop introduces participants to the storytelling techniques and tricks when writing for sound, as well as script conventions and the ongoing tradition of radio drama both in Australia and abroad. Over the week we'll each brainstorm, write and workshop a short script, looking at the ways we can tailor our stories to the medium. What are the opportunities of the form and what are its limits? How do we know if it's day or night? How do we indicate a new character coming into the room? Do identical twins have the same voice? If you have a passion for storytelling, and an interest in scriptwriting and radio, this is the workshop for you. Good literacy is advised and a creative mind a must. This course is suitable for students in Years 9 and 10. Details of this event may be subject to change. Please visit http://cce.sydney.edu.au/course/lusr for more information or to register.
