Campus Recreation Offers Comprehensive Wellness Program To Community
Campus Recreation is on the move at Lipscomb, offering many new initiatives including personal training, nutrition courses and fitness classes. The programs are open to students, faculty/staff, alumni and the broader community and provide a safe place to improve overall wellness, pursue a competitive drive, or experience recreational enjoyment. The overall recreation program offers opportunities to improve physical, mental and spiritual wellness.
“We have a lot of great opportunities for the entire community. We offer a wide variety of programs all led by certified, trained professionals in their field. People can get both nutritional guidance and personal training in a Christian environment. The entire community can take advantage of our programs for costs 50 percent lower than the average fitness club. People can come to our classes without paying a membership fee,” said Emily Harris, director of Campus Recreation.
You can find everything you are looking for in the Student Activity Center (SAC). Participants can join an early morning boot camp with one of Nashville’s top personal trainers or meet with a dietetic intern to learn to eat healthier, pursue weight gain or loss, or manage specific dietetic needs. The Campus Recreation programs include zumba, power yoga, exercise dance, circuit, step and kickboxing workouts among many other offerings. Cyclists join together on Saturdays for community bike rides, and martial arts instructor T.J. Demartino offers an eight week self-defense program in the SAC.
The SAC is also home to the Lipscomb Alumni Intramural League (LAIL) for graduates of Lipscomb University who are interested in enjoying friendly competition while networking with other Lipscomb alumni, faculty/staff, and the community. LAIL, managed by Daniel Carrillo, recently announced new opportunities to play basketball and racquetball on teams comprised of both alumni and community members.
