Linking school mathematics to out-of-school activities and implication for functional mathematics November 23, 2005

We will present two extended activities that teacher-researchers in our 'Linking school mathemetics to out-of-school mathematical activities' project carried out. We will then outline visions of 'functional mathematics' and reconsider the two activities we present with regard to one vision of functional mathematics. We hope for a lively debate on issues old (applying mathematics) and new (functional mathematics).
