With only two days remaining before their debut gig at the local high school festival, a band of young girls suddenly find themselves short a guitar player and singer. Rather than quit, the girls enlist the help of a Korean exchange student who barely speaks Japanese as their singer. “LINDA LINDA LINDA” follows the girls through those three tumultuous days as they prepare for their big performance.
Director Nobuhiro Yamashita’s movies are known for their leisurely pace, and “Linda, Linda, Linda” at times has an almost documentary film. There are no flashy special effects and the girls are completely believable as they struggle to learn a few songs and fear embarrassing themselves on stage. The film is also notable for its casting of a young Korean actress, Bae Doo-Na, as exchange student Son. “LINDA LINDA LINDA” is a heartwarming tale that anyone who has ever had rock star dreams can relate to.
