LIGHTS DOWN LOW: A legendary party known around the world, LDL is a favorite San Francisco monthly event that brings in the best of the newest in electronic music today. Coming off of a 2 month hiatus and starting anew at Som on 2nd Fridays, we are ecstatic to present to you the following amazing artists:
ABOUT GANT MAN: The godfather of Chicago juke, GANT MAN was introduced to mixing at the young age of 5. At age 10 he began mixing on a college radio station in Chicago from 1989 through 1997. At age 15, Gant produced his first EP for Dance Mania and by 18 he began to travel, playing both the Rave and club circuits in the U.S. as well as in Europe. In 1998-99 Gant was playing in Paris at Le Queen and Gibus as well as in Geneve, Switzerland at the Lake Parade which prepared him for his Summer 2000 residency in Ibiza, Spain at El Divino. As of December 2005, Gant is the first DJ/producer to have a Chicago Juke house remix for a major artist on a major label with his remix for Beyonce's "Check On It". Now with 18 years of being a DJ, 13 years of producing tracks and releasing production on labels as Columbia, Riviera, Dust Traxx, Treehouse, Bunchlox and Dance Mania, his career has become more prolific with each passing year. Gant has the experience to move crowds all over the world with his House, Ghetto Juke, old school & Hip-Hop sound and will move any crowd he is given the chance to.
ABOUT STAR EYES: Brooklyn femme fatale STAR EYES is known for throwing down raw, dirty underground bass tracks, from grime bangers to ghetto house, Miami bass classics to speaker-rattling dubstep stormers. This 15-year veteran of the decks was one of first female drum & bass DJs in the US, and a member of the B.A.S.S. Crew, Eklektic, and genre-bending DJ duo Syrup Girls. She has played all over the world, from the Vans Warped Tour to South Africa, from London’s famed Fabric nightclub to Berlin squat parties. Since 2006, Star Eyes has been a founding member of the world famous Trouble & Bass crew. In June, Trouble & Bass released her first EP, Disappear, featuring original vocals, songwriting, and a heady mix of goth and rave influences whipped into a style she calls “haunted house.” She is currently writing songs for her next EP, working on remixes, and traveling the world with her hard-hitting DJ sets. Her vocals also appear on tracks by John B (Beta) and Passions (Kitsuné).
ABOUT SAMO SOUNDBOY: is a Los Angeles based producer and DJ whose powerful live sets, and original productions have brought him to the forefront of 2010’s global club scene. His introduction as an artist came in 2005 when Samo spent a year living Buenos Aires, Argentina. There he learned to DJ from experimental cumbia producers at the now infamous Fugees 99, a Nigerian-owned dancehall in the city’s south end. Compounding those influences with a love of crunk and ghetto house, Samo emerged to create a uniquely rugged but soulful sound of his own. With his second EP released through Palms Out Sounds in September, and forthcoming remixes for the likes of Tim Dolla, Bassanova, and NGUZUNGUZU, Samo is only getting started spreading his club aesthetic that Chicago journalist Dave Quam described as: “Weird, banging, and beautiful. Like a shortwave radio recording of all the best stations at once.”
