The City of Newton Festival & Events Committee is busy finalizing plans for the annual “Light Up the Town” celebration, which is scheduled for Sunday, November 30, at 5:30 p.m. on the downtown square.
This year’s event will electrify the downtown area with thousands of lights, while providing a wide variety of activities for the young and the young at heart. Santa and his elves will arrive in downtown Newton for free photos with area children. Free hayrides are also a tradition at the event. And, for a slight cost, children can enjoy a ride on Bubba the Camel.
Christmas music will fill the air that evening, compliments of the Newton-Conover High School Band, the St. Paul United Methodist Church Adult Choir, the Newton-Conover Middle School Chorus, the Startown Elementary School Chorus, and the NewArt School Youth Choir. Concordia Lutheran Church will perform a live nativity scene.
A variety of concessions will be available that night, including hamburgers, hotdogs, pizza, barbecue sandwiches, popcorn, baked goods, and drinks. Scheduled vendors include the Newton-Conover High School Chorus Boosters Club, Newton-Conover High School Band Boosters Club, Concordia Lutheran Church, Abernethy Memorial United Methodist Church, and the Elks Lodge.
In case of inclement weather, pictures with Santa only will move to the lower level of the Newton Recreation Center on South Brady Avenue.
