This course teaches the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to acquatic emergencies as a professional lifegaurd. Course content and activities include: decision making skills, interacting with the public, recognizing & responding to all types of emergencies, equipment based rescue skills, spinal injury management and other current topics. Successfull participants will recieve certificates in: Lifegaurd Training, First Aid, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
Prerequisites:
1. Must be 15 years old. BRING PROOF OF AGE TO FIRST CLASS.
2. Swim 300 yards continuously (consisting of front crawl and breaststroke)
3. Timed skill: swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive to a minimum depth of 7 feet, retrieve a 10 pound diving brick, return to the surface and swim back to the starting point, keeping the face above water and holding the 10 pound object with both hands. Please note the pool used for this course has a depth of 12-13 feet, which participants will need to submerge to in order to retrieve the brick.
March 14th through April 13th
Class Meets: Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-10pm; 6-8pm will be at the ARC Washtenaw County Building and 8:30-10pm will be at the EMU Club Pool.
