The Friends of Rocky Hills will present Life with Orchids, a talk by Bill Smiles, life-long orchid grower. The talk will be followed by a question-and-answer period. Bill Smiles is a Chappaqua resident and founder and past president of the Westchester Orchid Society. Orchids have been part of his life since he first encountered them while working in a floral shop at age 18. He has a degree in botany and is known for the draculas he grows, but is also fascinated with native orchids in the woodlands of Pennsylvania and the rain forests of South America.
Rocky Hills, a Preservation Project of the Garden Conservancy, is an exceptional personal garden in Mount Kisco. It will become a horticultural education center for gardeners in Westchester County and the region through the generosity of Henriette Suhr, the garden owner, and the joint efforts of the Garden Conservancy, the Friends of Rocky Hills, and the Westchester County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation.
