A new, lavishly illustrated edition of Yann Martel's international best-seller! Life of Pi is the wild, harrowing story of Pi Patel, the 16-year-old son of a Pondicherry zoo-keeper who finds himself adrift on a lifeboat with a 450 pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker. “In rich, hallucinatory passages, Pi recounts the harrowing journey as the days blur together, elegantly cataloging the endless passage of time and his struggles to survive.”
The 2005 art competition was awarded to the talented Tomislav Torjanac, who lives and works in Croatia as a freelance illustrator.
Yann Martel grew up in Costa Rica, France, Mexico, Alaska, and Canada and as an adult has spent time in Iran, Turkey, and India. After studying philosophy in college, he worked at various odd jobs until he began earning his living as a writer at the age of twenty-seven. He lives in Montreal.
