'Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness' features the extraordinary holdings of American art at the Yale University Gallery. Yale's collection represents a broad panorama of this country's history as no other art museum collection can. With more than 275 objects, the exhibition spans the period from the first European settlements to explorations of the far west and culminates in the World's Columbian Exposition in 1893. It features the works of Paul Revere, Thomas Eakins and Winslow Homer, covering paintings, prints, photographs and decorative arts. At the center of the exhibition is a group of early American portraits and history paintings by John Trumbull, including The Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776.
