San Francisco's longest running spoken word variety show is back, with Lev Grossman, Tobias Wolff and Taylor Mali! Excitement!

When: Saturday, June 12, 2010, 7:30 to 9:30 PM, doors open at 6:30 PM

Where: The Make Out Room, 3225 22nd. St. between Mission and Valencia, San Francisco
How much: $5 to $10 sliding scale, all proceeds benefit the CSC

About the readers/performers:

Tobias Wolff's books include Our Story Begins: New And Selected Stories, Old School, The Night In Question, In Pharoah's Army, In The Garden Of The North American Martyrs, This Boy's Life and Ugly Rumors. This Boy's Life was made into a movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. He's the Ward W. and Priscilla B. Woods Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University.

Lev Grossman is the author of the novels Warp, Codex and The Magicians. He's a senior book critic and writer for Time, and co-author of the Time blog TechLand. He's written for The New York Times, Salon.com, Lingua Franca, Entertainment Weekly, Time Out New York, The Wall Street Journal, and The Village Voice.

Taylor Mali is a slam poet, teacher and voiceover artist. He's best known for the poem "What Teachers Make." He's published a book, What Learning Leaves, and put out four CDs including The Difference Between Left and Wrong, and Icarus Airlines.

Andrew Lam is the author of a new book, East Eats West: Writing In Two Hemispheres. He's also the co-founder of New America Media, an editor with the Pacific News Service and a commentator on NPR's All Things Considered.

Corrina Bain is the author of Ugly Poems For Ugly People. She's appeared on national slam poetry teams in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Bill Carter is the author of Fools Rush In and Red Summer, and the director of a documentary film, Miss Sarajevo. He worked with an aid agency during the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and helped to connect the band U2 to the Sarajevan relief effort.

Writers With Drinks has won "Best Literary Night" from the SF Bay Guardian readers' poll five years in a row and was named "Best Literary Drinking" by the SF Weekly. The spoken word "variety show" mixes genres to raise money for local worthy causes. The award-winning show includes poetry, stand-up comedy, science fiction, fantasy, romance, mystery, literary fiction, erotica, memoir, zines and blogs in a freewheeling format.
