Come and join us at a new performance "Let Her Be A Sweet Thing" by multidisciplinary artist and poet Vanessa German.
Comprised of 5 poems, "Let Her Be A Sweet Thing" is a Spokenwordoperetta inspired by Civil Rights activist Claudette Colvin, and the women and girls of the Civil Rights Movement.
This work explores the role of women and girls in the Civil Rights movement, as catalysts, leaders and warriors; giving honor to all the women, of all colors, whose names we'll never know, but whose sacrifices, and struggles we stand upon now. "Let Her Be A Sweet Thing", also explores the place of ritual, imagination and emotion in the space of a very thoughtful and intentional movement for change.
Vanessa German is an award winning multidisciplinary artist based in Pittsburgh, PA. she has written and performed around the world, most recently completing performance commissions for Boston College, and Texas Southern University. She has written, produced and performed several evening length shows, and is presently an August Wilson Center Fellow, creating an evening length spoken word opera for the International First Voice Festival.
