Lesley Nowlin has always felt a pull towards cultures different than her own. Known for her keen eye, Nowlin has centered much of her professional career on photographing and documenting people from the Latin American regions. Mesmerized by experiences far beyond her own realm, Nowlin has crossed borders to capture intimate portraits of people’s lives and conditions. She has gracefully done this by relying on what drew her to photography in the first place; simply exploring and capturing on film what she sees. As a proponent of the image, Nowlin strives to grasp a moment in time that evokes enough power and mood to stand-alone. She focuses on the single telling image, making it her goal to let it speak for itself.
Nowlin had the opportunity to explore closer than ever, when in 2008 she participated in fieldwork throughout the indigenous regions of Northwest and Central Guatemala. It is here she captured the parallel resemblances between people, regardless of setting. As owner of L. Nowlin Gallery, Nowlin will be exhibiting the photographic work "Guatemala" July 1-August 29. The opening reception will be held on July 11, 2009 from 6-8pm with light refreshments by Café Josie and wine donated by Tolosa Winery. As part of West End Gallery Night, additional receptions will be held on Thursday, July 2nd and August 6th , 2009 from 6 – 8 p.m.
