Games & Diversions – ranging from innocent to licentious – occupy Les Délices’ (pronounced Lay day-LEASE) attentions as they close their third season of Cleveland concerts on May 12 & 13, 2012.
Acclaimed soprano Ellen Hargis joins Les Délices for this fun and frivolous program inspired by gambling and gossip, and fueled by an obsession with chocolate, wine, and other exotic brews. Featured works include excerpts from Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Plaisirs de Versailles and Nicholas Bernier’s delightful Coffee Cantata. Marin Marais’ viol solo Jeu de Volant depicts of a game of badminton, while François Couperin teases out French foibles in his witty harpsichord suite, Folies Françoises. Ellen Hargis is joined by Les Délices’ director Debra Nagy (baroque oboe), Julie Andrijeski (baroque violin), Emily Walhout (viola da gamba), and harpsichordist Michael Sponseller for these concerts.
