Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal April 17, 2007

In its return engagement to the Joyce, Les Ballets jazz de Montréal brings the New York premiere of Mapa, by the celebrated choreographer of Brazil's Grupo Corpu, Rodrigo Paderneiras. The piece pays tribute and takes its energy from the music of composer Marco Antonio Pena Araujo (M.A.P.A.) and showcases Pedemeiras's choreography that seamlessly unites Brazilian dance vocabulary with the classical ballet. The original score from Les Chambres des Jacques, an intimate new work by Azure Barton, draws from Vivaldi arias and Quebecois folk-song, celebrating the individual spirits of the dancers.
