Join the Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation and explore the amazing world of robotics. The museum is proud to present a new robotics activity in collaboration with Mindsurfers. The robotics program, offered Saturdays beginning November 22, 2008, is designed to engage all ages in an exploration of how robotics work. Participants navigate obstacles and accomplish missions with their robot, Dr. Heartbeat, by their side.
Based on the technology and methodology of the LEGO® MINDSTORMS™ robotics center, students in the robotics workshops learn to design, program and switch on robots in spaces equipped with LEGO® furniture and equipment specifically designed to motivate them. The workshops equip students with the necessary tools for the successful resolution of problems in communication, teamwork, creativity and innovation.
In each session children are paired with a shared team goal of accomplishing the mission. They share a robot and a PC with an easy-to-use visual programming application. At each table, eight children share both a partner goal and a common mission of saving the "patient". Teams work within their quadrant and around the entire table, creating a powerful environment of overall cooperation within the mission.
This fifty minute program will be offered at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
Participants may sign up for a session or all 5 consecutive sessions. This program is best suited for ages 9 through 14, however younger children will enjoy working with an adult. Space is limited to 8 children per session, for more information or to make a reservation call 781 893 5410 or email elln@crmi.org.
