Lecture...Learning by Observing & Pitching In: Cultural Approaches to Learning March 1, 2007

This presentation shows cultural differences in arrangements for children's learning. In some indigenous communities, it is common for children to learn through observation of ongoing community activities and to pitch in when they are ready. This approach is much less prevalent in communities that segregate chidlren from many activities.

This richly illustrated talk is based on research conducted in Guatemalan Mayan, Mexica-heritage, and European-heritage US communities as well as observations in an innovative US school.
