John N. Low, a member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and a former tribal attorney, will discuss past and present federal Indian law and the underlying social, political, and economic dynamics at a lecture Sunday, March 30, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, 3001 Central St., Evanston.
Low, the museums newly appointed executive director, will speak on Federal Indian Law and IndianNon-Native Relations.
His talk will cover Supreme Court decisions, federal legislation, treaties, and other elements of the legal framework governing issues such as tribal autonomy; land, energy, and mineral rights; casino gambling; religious freedoms; protection of Native cultural resources; and more.
Low earned a law degree from the University of Michigan and is a licensed attorney in Michigan.
