Lecture: Hidden History May 18, 2010

This lecture will take place at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center at the corner of 14th Avenue and Grant Street, 1370 Grant Street. Killing for Coal. This is a brilliant new history of the 1914 Ludlow Massacre the deadliest strike in American history when state militiamen and Rockefeller mine guards clashed with United Mine Workers. Dr. Thomas Andrews of the University of Colorado at Denver considers issues of social and environmental justice, as well causes and consequences of the strikes over the course of nearly half a century. He explains a complex world shaped by the connected forces of land, labor, corporate industrialization, and workers' resistance.
