Since 2006 Rochelle Steiner has been the director of the Public Art Fund in New York. Her numerous high-profile projects there have included Olafur Eliasson's ambitious "New York City Waterfalls" (2008); Martin Creed's live, two-nights-only "Variety Show" (2007); a 20,000-square-foot site-specific painting by Sarah Morris (2007); and an interactive telescope installation by Nina Katchadourian (2006). As chief curator of London's Serpentine Gallery from 2001 to 2005, she curated solo presentations by Ilya and Emilia Kabakov, Gabriel Orozco, Cindy Sherman, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and many other important international artists.
