Steve Mumford, journalist, artist and author of a new book, titled ?Baghdad Journal,? will present a talk at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Boliou Hall, Room 104. The event is free and open to the public.
Mumford will present a slide lecture and discuss his experiences as a combat artist in war-torn Iraq. Mumford's bold, color-saturated watercolors of the human side of war have prompted comparisons to Winslow Homers Civil War era paintings commissioned by Harpers Monthly. His reflective paintings offer a personal view of a situation that currently polarizes the citizenry of the United States, but Mumford states that politics has little to do with his interest in painting these images.
Mumford received a positive national response to his project and his recent book. He has been interviewed on National Public Radio and ABC News. His paintings have been reproduced in The New York Times and the November issue of Harpers Monthly.
