The period from the late 19th century to World War II brought a proliferation of new trends and rapid, stylistic innovations in western European art. Expand your appreciation of art by exploring the collections of the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art through lively discussions on the origins of “modernism” and the different styles and artistic movements of early modern art, including post-Impressionism and Surrealism. For the fourth session, the class will meet at the Wadsworth Atheneum to experience looking at art firsthand. Museum admission is included in the course fee. No prior knowledge of art is necessary.
