Wizard rock is an international movement of bands that write songs based on and inspired by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. There are approximately 500 of these bands in existence, and Wordsmith Books will play host to four of them on July 7. Each of these four bands brings a unique set of qualities to the table. While The Remus Lupins favor a poppy indie rock sound and generally upbeat subject matter, Draco & the Malfoys play to their chosen character's darker qualities with a big guitar sound reminiscent of the hard rock bands that have influenced them. Meanwhile, The Whomping Willows combine elements of punk, indie and folk, with a tendency toward simple song structure and catchy melodies. Justin Finch-Fletchley's music is more difficult to categorize, but his offbeat sense of humor and exceptional stage presence dominate his live performances. Together, these four bands will rock out wizard style and entertain Harry Potter fans of all ages. For more information about the wizard rock movement, visit www.wizrocklopedia.com.
