Mention pre-planning and the first instruments that are likely to come to mind are insurance, investments, income plans and wills.
These are well and good, for these instruments enable individuals to cater for our future needs.
Do our plans include steps to protect our interests if we should lose our mental capacity and become vulnerable? If not, a crucial part of this suite of plans is missing.
In March 2010, the Mental Capacity Act came into effect, enabling individuals above 21 years of age to plan ahead.
The Act empowers them to make choices for their future while they are mentally capable, to specify their personal choices and decisions through the Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA), in the event that they should lose mental capacity because of a stroke an accident or dementia.
Learn the benefits of making an LPA and how you can apply for one, at this free workshop!
