The 3rd annual laps for life event will raise money for the Pediatric Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplantation Unit at the new Diamond Children’s Medical Center at UMC (opening in spring 2010. Event Founder, Peter Davis has set a fundraising goal of $50,000 this year! This year, there will be three karts participating. Each kart will have a team of drivers (comprised mostly of Sonoran Desert Karting Association members) who will race to complete the most laps in the allowed time of 26 hours. $10,000 kart sponsors include Tim and Kathy Torrington for the “California Girl” kart ; Buck and Holly Bland for the “Sundt-Bland” kart and Peter and Nancy Davis and John and Anne Duffy for the “Laps for Life” kart. In attendance, adding a little “celebrity” cachet to the event will be three generations of the internationally renowned McGriff racing family.
New this year, a $10,000 sponsorship from On Any Moto of Tucson, two motorcycle rides have been added to the event for Sunday, December 6th. The first is an off-road drive that will depart at 8am from Sertino’s Coffee located at S. Rancho Sahuarita Blvd. and I-19. The 135-mile street ride will depart at 10:00 AM from On Any Moto at 1655 W. Grant Rd. All three events are timed to end simultaneously at the Musselman Honda Circuit at 1pm.
