Dr. M. Elen Deming is Professor and Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Between January 1993 and September 2008, she taught seminars in the history and theories of landscape architecture as well as design studios at the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, NY. Co-editor of Landscape Journal from 2002 with James F. Palmer (emeritus, SUNY ESF), Deming assumed the role of sole editor from 2006 to 2009. Chosen by the ASLA to receive a National Honor Award for Communications (2008) for its 25th anniversary, Landscape Journal is still the premier peer-reviewed journal in the field.
Her lecture is titled "The State of the Question: Research Strategies in Landscape Architecture." A reception follows the lecture in the Dana Building's Ford Commons.
