Oak Park, IL – Lake Theatre continues its First Tuesday Film Club with the German film Lore. This special presentation is slated for Tuesday, April 2nd at 12PM and 7PM. With lush cinematography and an evocative, haunting mood, Lore was awarded the Bronze Horse for best film at the Stockholm International Film Festival. Tickets are $6 for matinee/seniors and $8.50 for adults in the evening. Advance tickets are available online or at the Lake Theatre box office, located at 1022 Lake Street.
An unconventional take on the Holocaust with unforgettable impact, the film follows five German children who set out on a journey to find their grandmother at the end of World War II. Lore, played by Saski Rosendahl, leads her younger siblings across their war devastated country after her SS officer father flees and her Nazi supporting mother turns herself in to the Allies. Her world is further shattered when she meets refugee, Thomas. She must learn to trust the one person she has always been taught to hate in order for her and her siblings to survive. A film discussion will follow both the shows led by Doug Deuchler in the afternoon and Joe Barillari in the evening.
With the presentation of Lore the First Tuesday Film Club will mark the completion of its first year presenting an afternoon and evening screening of foreign, specialty or documentary films.
An advisory board, currently consisting of local residents Bobbie Raymond, Susie Helfrich, and Mary Kay O’Grady, along with Shirley Johnson of Classic Cinemas, collaborate on film selection.
