Lake Superior Day 2008 is held at hundreds of beaches and other locations in Wisconsin, Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Minnesota and Canada surrounding the deepest and cleanest of the Great Lakes.
Founded in the early 1990s, the annual Lake Superior Day celebration is held on the third Sunday in July.
The 2008 theme is “Let’s Go Fly a Kite!” to symbolize clean energy sources such as wind power.
A poster and more information on the kite theme can be found at:

Lake Superior Day is sponsored by the Lake Superior Binational Forum, a group of U.S. and Canadian volunteers from a wide-range of fields that provides input to governments about lake issues and educate basin residents about ways to protect and restore the lake.
Residents are encouraged to register their event on the binational forum website.
The Lake Superior events should celebrate the heritage, beauty and future of the world's largest freshwater lake that is vital to wildlife, recreation and the economy of two countries.
Past events included dragon boat races, beach clean ups, musical concerts, library displays, church services, and many included signed proclamations from government officials.
Tne binational forum and its events are funded by a grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Great Lakes National Program Office in Chicago, and Environment Canada.
