Lace Beginnings May 12, 2007

This exhibt features a display of Christening gowns. There are about a dozen Christening gowns in the display, including several Ayrshire gowns. Did you know there is a design difference that designates whether the Ayrshire gown was made for a girl or a boy? The point of the embroidered bodice is left hanging out over the waist on the boy's. On the girl's, the point is sewn into the waist. Other lace for babies such as bibs, caps, sweaters, blankets and booties are displayed.
