KUNSTIKIT

Kunstikit is a large-scale project by Leo Preston and Wrap arts centre, involving artists and venues across Norway. Kunstikit has already captured the interest and engagement of many Norwegian artists and institutions. The project is intended as a celebration of the diversity and communicative potential of the performing arts, and can also be seen as a gift from various individual artistic areas, to this intrinsically interdisciplinary field.
Kunstikit takes place in several fazes, beginning with the production of 30 identical packages - each containing the same 12 commissioned art works (or "components") - and ending with small festivals, where performing artists and groups will show work that they create using these packages (and attached dogmas).
In connection with the unveiling and launch of Kunstikit's beautiful and fascinating packages (wonderful collectors items in their own right), Leo Preston will be giving workshops in Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim, with Tiago Rodrigues and Tonan Quito from Portugal. The contemporary dance / performance group, thud! will do a workshop in Tromsø, and Veronica Thorseth from thud! will join the workshop in Stavanger, Bergen and Trondheim.
Artists and groups such as Deep Blue and Tore Vagn Lid (Transitiatret) have already committed to create performances for the Kunstikit festivals that will take place at Rådstua in Tromsø, Avant Garden in Trondheim, Tou Scene in Stavanger, USF in Bergen and Literaturhuset in Oslo. These festivals will provide a profoundly fascinating and entertaining insight into the many different approaches and strategies people use to create their performances. It will also be interesting to see what themes emerge in these works, as all the commissioned work that makes up the Kunstikit package does in fact address, in one way or another, the same loose theme that was given to each of the contributing artists. This theme will only be made known indirectly to those who use the package to create new work, in so far as they are able to interpret it through the individual components in the package. In other words this is like a kind of thematic "Chinese whispers".
