Claremont Graduate University’s 17th Annual Kingsley and Kate Tufts Poetry Awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 23 at Thayer Hall, The Colburn School of Music. The ceremony will be hosted by David St. John and it will feature poetry readings followed by a book signing. Matthea Harvey has been selected as the 2009 winner of the $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Award for her book "Modern Life." The Kate Tufts Discovery Award is presented annually for a first book by a poet of genuine promise. Matthew Dickman has been selected as the 2009 winner of the $10,000 Kate Tufts Award for his book "All-American Poem."
Claremont Graduate University awards two prizes for poetry each year, The Kingsley Tufts Award ($100,000) and The Kate Tufts Discovery Award ($10,000.) CGU’s Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award is one of the largest monetary prize in the nation for a mid -career poet. Former Kingsley Tuft Award winners include Robert Wrigley, Tom Sleigh, Linda Gregerson and Yusef Komunyakaa.
