KIND OF BLU JAM: A weekly jazz jam session held by Eddie Layman on drums, Christy Smith on bass and since it's a brand new 2013, this year the format will be slightly different. The jam will feature a new pianist weekly and this week, the great Jordan Wei.

Jordan Wei is no stranger to the local music scene in Singapore. His musical lineage includes renowned violinst Goh Soon Tioe as his grandfather and composer Tonni Wei and music critic Patricia Goh as his parents. At just 28 yrs old, Jordan has already established himself as one of Singaporeís most sought after and versatile pianists.
Since graduating from Middlesex University, London, with a Masters of Jazz Composition in 2009, Jordan has worked with many musicians both locally and overseas. Some of the more notable ones include JJ Lin, Charlie Hadenís Liberation Orchestra, The Lion King Musical, Alan Patrick of ìThe Driftersî and Femi Temowo.
In addition to being a multi-instrumentalist, Jordan has also gained a fair amount of recognition as a composer. In 2004, his composition ìAxiomaticî was performed by the SAF band chamber group; for the chamber concert in Victoria Concert Hall. He has recently been commissioned to compose and arrange for the TENG Company; a Chinese fusion ensemble headed by Dr. Samuel Wong. Jordan is currently based in Singapore and is both performing and teaching internationally.

Jam Sessions are an old Jazz tradition, and serve several important functions in the Jazz community. They allow emerging players to test their skills in front of an audience. Jam sessions also provide an opportunity for "cutting contests" where musicians vie for dominance by comparing their imaginations and improvisational skills in a live face-to-face situation. Also, Jam sessions allow musicians new to the area to network, and show what they have to offer.
