Kids: Ready, Get Set…Run!
Meijer Sponsors Annual Kids Run
Before the Chicago Marathon, there was the Plainfield Harvest 5K … and unlike the Chicago race, kids as young as six get to participate in this exciting, annual event.
On Sunday, September 26, 2010, come out and run or just watch the kids, ages 6 to 12, push their way to the finish line. Registration is $12 per child and race day is guaranteed to be fun for the entire family.
Race day registration and packet pick up begins at 7 a.m. to meet the 5K start of 9 a.m. at the Village Green Park, with all race day participants taking home a t-shirt and goody bag while supplies last.
The Meijer Miler, the kids race portion of the day’s events, begins at 8:15 a.m. and is sponsored by Meijer, the one-stop supercenter. Kids race participants can pick up their packets early on Friday, September 24th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, September 25th from 9 a.m. to noon at the Meijer store located at 13521 S. Route 59 in Plainfield.
Prizes will be awarded for the overall winners of both boys and girls in the individual age categories from 6 to 12 years of age. In addition, kids can enter the “Design A Shirt Contest” at the Plainfield Meijer, the Plainfield Park District, YMCA and Creative World. Kids will have a chance to have their design featured on the Meijer Miler kids race t-shirt. The contest begins August 21st and continues through September 13, 2010, and all entry forms must be turned into Meijer.
Post race festivities continue at TBA, including food, drinks, live entertainment and fun prizes! It’s the perfect way to spend a Sunday.
“Bringing the community together is what we’re all about at Meijer,” said Rita Spaccapaniccia, director of Advertising, Pricing, Local Events/Western Region. “It is wonderful to see the community come together and support all of the kids race to the finish line.”
