5 Classes: June 25–29: 10:00am–1:00pm

This five-day class is aimed at children of ages 10–14. Your child probably has a general understanding of what a photograph is in the digital age, but we will introduce him/her to the origins of photography and its concepts at the most basic level. This will be accomplished through a short series of fun projects:

• Photograms—we will make photogram prints and t-shirts by placing objects in
direct contact with sensitized materials which are then exposed to sunlight and washed in water to "develop."

• Pinhole Cameras—children will learn that a camera can be as simple as a box with a small hole in it. We will use an oatmeal container to make a working pinhole camera.

• Film Photography with "Toy" Cameras—we will meet at a local park for the first part of this class. Students will use our plastic cameras to expose a roll of film. Parents are asked to join us on this day.

• Print a Photo the Old-Fashioned Way—students will try their hand at making an enlarged photograph from a negative they made the day before.

Participants are asked to wear old clothing and comfortable shoes. Students will have so much fun that they may not even realize they learned something.
