Kenny Barron Trio
May 30, 2008 - Jun 1, 2008
All shows $20 & $24
Since leaving his hometown of Philadelphia in 1961 for New York, where he soon joined Dizzy Gillespie’s band for a decisive five-year stay, Kenny Barron has been in constant demand as a recording artist and performer. He made his debut as a leader in 1974, by which time he’d already worked with Freddie Hubbard, Buddy Rich, and Stanley Turrentine, and he soon embarked on a richly rewarding partnership with Ron Carter and his rhythm section of Buster Williams and Ben Riley. Subsequently Barron, Williams, and Riley spent years together working on various projects, notably Sphere. Barron’s own recordings have earned multiple Grammy nominations and other awards and honors. He’ll appear at Yoshi’s with his current trio of Kiyoshi Kitagawa, bass, and Francisco Mela, drums, for three nights of elegant, lyrical, swinging jazz.
