Clive Smith, Third Dan, who has spent four years in Japan, and is from Portsmouth Kendo Club, will give a talk about the history of this impressive Japanese Martial Art, followed by a deomnstration by his members wearing full headpiece, long indigo clothing and face masks and using long bamboo swords.
Kendo traces its history back to the early Samurai times, when this Japanese style of fencing formed an important part of the training of a warrior, not only in fighting but also in self-discipline.
