KCC Productions presents Jowee Omicil and the Core at Zinc Bar Monday December 10 at 9 PM, featuring Jowee on saxes, Kona Khasu on bass, Mawuena Kodjovi and Brad Craig on guitars and Manny Laine on drums. More than a mere player, Jowee is a unique and prolific composer, producer, arranger, vocalist, band leader, and music instructor who has had the honor of being invited to President Barack Obama’s White House to play his music for its inaugural observation of Haitian Flag Day before 150 VIP guests. Taking great inspiration from the innovative greats of bebop and beyond, Jowee's music is steeped in the spirituality set forth by his minister father. I also want people to DANCE to jazz again. Jazz was once popular music and I want the world to groove once again.”
Guitarist Brad Craig has performed at Max's Kansas City, CBGB, and all the hot spots in his native NY, and recorded a hit single for Jimboco Records, while still in high school. Since then, he's continued to work on stages and in studios from NYC to Tokyo, with a wide variety of established and emerging artists. Now an in-demand multi-instrumetalist and producer, Brad records and performs with artists in many genres, as well as doing solo recordings, and playing with his own trio "BC3" (Brad Craig Trio).
Upon arrival in the USA (from Togo) in 1998, guitarist Mawuena Kodjovi met and worked with the great Babatunde Olatunji. Mawuena is not only a guitar player. He’s a multi instrumentalist who can also play Bass, Piano, Drums, Percussion…and of course sing, compose, and arrange.
Emmanuel (Manny) Laine is the drummers' drummer. Disciplined and talented, Manny is a graduate of the Berklee School of Music and the man who keeps the tempo for Couleur Cavé. Though young, he has the musical maturity of a man twice his age.
Liberian-born bassist Kona Khasu has played with Kenny Garrett and recorded on Jowee Omicil's “Roots and Grooves.”
