Ever since its inception in 1998, the traditional Cuban Son ensemble Conjunto Progreso has taken audiences back in time to the nostalgic era of early Cuban popular music. They've been called "Cuban Son Masters", "Super Group", "21st Century Soneros" and "Keepers of the Flame" just to name a few. Grammy Nominated in 2005 fro "Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album" the group attended the Grammys later in February 2006. Also Conjunto Progreso was voted "Best Latin Band" Miami New Times 2010 and given a proclamation to the City of Miami in 2009.
Led by Johnny Aguiló, son of Cuban trumpet legend and band leader Rolando "El Ruso" Aguiló (Lecuano Cuban Boys, Orquesta Hermanos Castro, Conjunto Casablanca, etc) and grandson of Cuban Bass player Mario Aguiló (Conjunto Yumuri, Orquesta Saratoga, Conjunto Casablanca, Nat King Cole) , the group is an ensemble of middle age and young, aggressive Cuban musicians, who bring to the table a one of a kind traditional Cuban music experience. They are one of the hardest working bands in the nation, and there is never a weekend where the band is not performing. The orchestra (conjunto) sound, replete with powerful & deep-groove descarga jams, is inspiring, moving, amazing & out of this world!
