Learn about the history of the Oakdale-Great River area which surrounds The Connetquot River - Long Island's Largest, most historic and most picturesque river, once called "The South Shore Gold Coast" - the mansions and millionaires who shaped its development. The Connetquot River is arguably the Premier Kayaking Venue on Long Island and still has many remnants of this bygone era which can only be seen from the water. This area is best seen by kayak.
