Grammy Award winner Kathy Mattea’s spectacular career has seen success in many genres since her 1983 debut. With her start in country music, she created massive hits including “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and “Goin’ Gone” earning a huge reputation as a strong singer and songwriter. Her music continues to evolve, though, as she incorporated folk with Willow in the Wind, Celtic with Roses and now bluegrass in her 2008 release COAL. COAL, a deeply heartfelt tribute to her youth in the mining towns of West Virginia, exemplifies her skill and talent at creating powerful stories set to music.
