Good Citizen Gallery announces an exhibition of new kinetic sculptures
Karin Hodgin Jones: Mimetic Labors

Good Citizen Gallery invites you to come experience an exhibition of new kinetic sculptures: Mimetic Labors by local artist Karin Hodgin Jones. Hodgin Jones utilizes machines to perform mundane repetitious tasks that result in poetic movements. The driving mechanisms in her sculptural installations perform their tasks devoid of any emotional content, but the resulting actions - plucking, tugging, and shaking sculptural elements- captivate and seduce.
Hodgin Jones was raised in Zionsville, Indiana. During her adolescence she observed how the once densely wooded agricultural community was absorbed and suburbanized by the sprawl of Indianapolis. She divided her early years between exploring the surrounding wilderness and the advanced technologies available from her schools. These early influences and the way they shaped her notions of landscape, machines, and self are visible in her work today. Hodgin Jones incorporates tightly organized mechanical interventions into her own constructed landscapes and the resulting interactions are full of unexpected grace.
Karin Hodgin Jones received her MFA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2008 and her BFA is from the University of Utah. She is currently a Visiting Artist at Webster University in St. Louis and splits her free time between St. Louis, MO and Urbana IL. She has exhibited throughout the U.S. including exhibitions in Salt Lake City, Austin, Chicago, and St. Louis.
