Opening reception on Sunday, January 10, 2010, 3 to 5 p.m.
LA Artcore presents a solo exhibition of Los Angeles-based artist Kaoru Mansour. Both of Mansour’s sculptural and two-dimensional bodies of work will be on view.
For over twenty-five years Mansour, who studied at Otis College of Art and Design, has been involved in achieving finished artworks by way of investigating both the technical and material processes that have lead to continually examined surfaces in both of her two-dimensional, mixed media works and sculptures. A native of Japan and a vocalist, Mansour’s graphic works reflect upon her native culture as well as her musical inclinations, composing images of plants and vegetation overlaid with graphical and diagrammatic notations. Mansour’s fascination between nature and culture extends to her sculptures, using found gourds as a foundation for building up their surfaces graphically and imaginatively, calling to mind Los Angeles’ natural landscape, Japanese pop-culture and design.
Mansour has exhibited nationally and internationally including solo exhibitions at Andrew Shire Gallery in Los Angeles, CA; g2 Gallery in Scottsdale, AZ; LMan Gallery and Ruth Bachofner Gallery in Santa Monica, CA. Recent group exhibitions include Crosscurrent – International Exchange Show between LA Artcore and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, Tokyo, Japan and LA Artcore International Exchange Show with Thailand, Burapha University, Bangkok, Thailand.
