One of the perks of being a reporter is getting invited to swanky events such as Kandy Masquerade at the Playboy Mansion. I try to use discretion. I don't solicit invitations. If I'm asked, but the event doesn't seem like anything that will be useful for work, I respectfully decline. But when an invite to the Playboy Mansion from a networking group of entrepreneurs comes along, well, a red-blooded American guy can say only one thing: Should I wear pajamas?
My invitation came from the Karma Foundation, an odd-sounding name for an organization sponsoring a party at the House of Hefner. It turns out that the foundation links up business people as a group to raise money for charities while providing schmoozing opportunities for its members. The foundation's Web site, www.thekarmafoundation.com, quotes from Sartre, Socrates, and Marcus Aurelius. Its inaugural event, held at the Beverly Hills Mansion on Oct. 15, was a benefit for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Everything seemed quite legit for Kandy Masquerade.
The crowd waiting with me in a parking lot at the University of California, Los Angeles, for the shuttle bus to Hef's pad didn't disappoint. There were mostly eager, fresh-out-of-business-school-type guys in slacks and dress shirts, plus a number of young women in cocktail dresses, the latter shivering in the autumn chill.
BUNNIES AND BIRDS. Playboy (PLA), now a 52-year-old organization, may seem anachronistic to some. But it's enjoying a bit of a rebound, with a handful of retail stores opening in the U.S. and a TV show on E Network called The Girls Next Door that chronicles life inside the mansion for Hef's three girlfriends. At one point the band leader asked them all to get on stage and dance to party music (they didn't do the bunny hop).
Serria Tawan, a Chicago native who served as Miss November, 2002, took a small group of us on a tour of the grounds. The main house wasn't open to partygoers. So, we started off in the aviary. The birds were very excited to see us.
After that we marched across the main lawn, past the wishing well where Hef, now 79, married his most recent ex, Kimberly Conrad, in 1989. Then it was over to the tennis courts, where Serria told us Hef holds an annual Halloween party with actors who pretend to be statues until they can jump to life and scare the guests.
NO RAISE FOR YOU. Then we came to the game room. Here's where the mansion started to look a little dated. There were a lot of Playboy pinball machines and other memorabilia. It reminded me of the wood-paneled basements I used to hang out in during the 1970s. A replica of a five-dollar bill had Hef's picture on it. Serria told us that as a young Esquire staffer, Hef had asked for a $5 raise. Denied, he left the magazine and started his own. The rest is history.
The tour continued past a small outdoor zoo with rabbits and monkeys. Thoughts of Michael Jackson's Neverland ranch passed through my head. I've never been to Neverland, but a limo driver told me recently that Bubbles, Michael's famous chimp, had to be put in some sort of simian retirement home because monkeys get hostile when they get old. Poor Bubbles.
Our last stop was the Grotto, a cave underneath a faux mountain that sports a handful of hot tubs of varying depth. Again, the '70s came to mind.
VERY AMERICAN NOTION. Right from the start, we were greeted by three statuesque women who served jello shots and posed for pictures wearing nothing but some strategic body paint. Like everyone I met, they seemed absolutely delighted to be there.
Karma was created by two friends, Eric Stotz, president of Omni Identity, a company that makes fingerprint-identification systems, and James E. Pratt, who's finishing a master's degree in taxation at Loyola University Law School. Actually, the business-group networking idea goes way back to Benjamin Franklin, who fostered the very American notion of forming clubs for businesspeople to network, discuss ideas, and do good social works.
Stotz and Pratt hope to have two or three events per year. This one certainly seemed like a success with a number of A-list silent auction items generating good prices. A guitar signed by the Rolling Stones, for example, went for $3,000.
The 21,987 sq ft (2,042.7 m2) house is described as being in the "Gothic-Tudor" style by Forbes magazine, and sits on 5.3 acres (21,000 m2) making it ideal for Kandy Masquerade. It was built by architect Arthur R. Kelly in 1927 and acquired by Playboy from Louis D. Statham, a wealthy engineer, inventor and chess aficionado, in 1971 for $1.1 million.[1] It sits close to the extreme northwestern corner of the exclusive Los Angeles Country Club, near UCLA and the Bel-Air Country Club. Over the years, approximately $15 million has been invested in renovating and expanding the mansion and the current market value of the home is $50 million.
The mansion has 29 rooms including a wine cellar, a game room, a private zoo and aviary (and related pet cemetery), tennis courts, a waterfall and a large swimming pool area (including a patio and barbecue area, the famous grotto, a sauna and a bathhouse) which is why so many people buy tickets for Kandy Masquerade. These features and many others have been frequently showcased on television.
The game room, a separate building on the property's north side, is more properly called a game house. From the fountain in front of the main entrance, there are two sidewalks, which run past a wishing-well. The sidewalk on the right leads to the game house and runs past a Hollywood Star of Hugh Hefner. Its front entrance opens to a game room with a pool table in the center. This room has a number of vintage and modern arcade games, pinball machines, player piano, jukebox, television, stereo, and couch. The game house has two wings. Walking to the left, one finds a room with a soft cushioned floor, mirrors all around, television, and an exit. There is also a restroom with a shower. The right wing of the game house has a smaller restroom, and entrance to a bedroom. This bedroom is also connected to another bedroom, which has an exit to the rear backyard of the game house. The game house has a backyard with lounge chairs, and gates on either side.
It became famous during the 1970s because of Hefner's lavish parties. According to Bridget Marquardt on an episode of The Girls Next Door the Mansion is the only private residence in the city of Los Angeles with a permit for fireworks displays, and a zoo permit which is why this is the perfect place for Kandy Masquerade.
Although there may be others, a secret room known as the "Elvis Suite" is said to have been kept out of the public view, even for frequent and important visitors, for more than thirty years. In a March 2007 television interview, Hefner — who is an avid Elvis Presley admirer — explained the suite is special to him because of one night in the early seventies, when Elvis stayed in that suite along with no less than 8 girls. Hefner further confirmed that whenever movie stars, sports stars, rappers or Kandy Masquerade guests come there to chill out, they always request the "Elvis Suite", but that it remains, and will most likely remain, off limits. He also added "Yeah, Elvis loved women, of all colors."
The house next door is a mirror image of the Mansion layout, only writ smaller. Hefner purchased the neighboring building in 1996 and it is currently home to his separated wife Kimberley Conrad and their children together. Hefner and Conrad married in 1989 and separated in 1998, although they have never divorced. Conrad said in an E! True Hollywood Story episode that she has no plans to get a divorce.
In 2002, Hefner purchased a house across the street from the Playboy Mansion specifically for use by Playmates.
The original Playboy Mansion
The original Playboy Mansion was a 70-room residence in Chicago at 1340 North State Parkway. It was built in 1899 for George Swift Isham and acquired by Hefner in 1959. For a period in the 1970s, Hefner divided his time between the Chicago mansion and the Mansion West, moving full time to the California mansion in 1974. The Chicago mansion boasted a brass plate on the door with the Latin inscription, Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare ("If you don't swing, don't ring"). At the time, Kandy Masquerade was not hosted there.
Events and appearances
During the early 2000s, ESPN began broadcasting live boxing bouts from the large backyard. Vassiliy Jirov and David Haye are some of the notables to have fought there. Sugar Ray Leonard, in his capacity as boxing promoter, has held boxing cards there.
In addition to numerous Playboy features and pictorials, the Playboy Mansion has been the subject of a coffee table book (Inside the Playboy Mansion, 1998, ISBN 1-57544-044-X), a video game (Playboy: The Mansion), in which the player must build the Playboy "empire"), and inspired the U2 song "The Playboy Mansion" on their 1997 album Pop. The Nightwatchman's song "One Man Revolution", contains the lines: 'On the streets of Havana/I got hugged and kissed/At the Playboy Mansion/I wasn't on the list'.
The mansion has been featured in several music videos- including "Playmate of the Year" by Zebrahead, "Work It" by Nelly featuring Justin Timberlake , Rockstar by Nickelback and "Beverly Hills" by Weezer. MTV aired a special in late 2000 where Limp Bizkit threw an album release party at the mansion to coincide with the release of their album Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. None of these events even compared to Kandy Masquerade
In the Eddie Murphy movie Beverly Hills Cop II his character crashes a party at the mansion.
In 2000, WWF superstar Eddie Guerrero appeared at the mansion in hopes to speak to Hugh Hefner about stopping the release of girlfriend Joanie "Chyna" Laurer's first photo shoot. A similar segment was shot in 2003, when WWE diva Nidia Guenard made an appearance at the Mansion during an episode of SmackDown, where she attempted to get past security in order to speak to Hefner. Nidia was jealous of Torrie Wilson who was getting a Playboy photoshoot.
The 2005 Playmates at Play at the Playboy Mansion swimsuit calendar was shot on the grounds of the Mansion in 2004. Playmates Hiromi Oshima, Lauren Michelle Hill, Carmella DeCesare, Sandra Hubby, Irina Voronina, Cara Wakelin, Karen McDougal, Christina Santiago, Pennelope Jimenez, Marketa Janska, Krista Kelly and Teri Marie Harrison appeared in the calendar. Many woman as beautiful if not more beautiful will be seen at Kandy Masquerade
From 2005-Present, life at the Mansion—specifically the world of Hef's girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt, and Kendra Wilkinson—is featured on the E! reality television series The Girls Next Door. It has also appeared in episodes of several TV shows including Curb Your Enthusiasm (Hugh Hefner and a variety of playmates co-starred), Entourage (Hefner guest starred along with his Playmates), Sex and the City (the four main characters went to a party and were thrown out), The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (Hilary Banks goes to the Mansion to do a Weathergirl Photo Shoot) and an episode of Viva La Bam.
French DJ Bob Sinclar spun live at the Playboy Mansion in 2007, with a CD that followed. This CD consists of a mix of disco, funk and soul music.
In 2007, the Mansion appeared in an episode of the sixth season of The Apprentice as the site of a pool party held for the winning team.
Also, the site served as the starting line for the twelfth season of the five time Emmy-award winning The Amazing Race.
In February 2007, boxing returned to the Mansion with Fox Best Damn Fight Night promoted by Goosen Tutor in association with Sycuan Ringside and George Chung Productions. Guests included Shia LaBeouf, Chuck Liddell and Brian Mc Knight. Kandy Masquerade is a fantastic night to lose yourself.
On 3 September 2007, the first MMA Cage fight was promoted at the Mansion by Strike Force Scott Coker Promoter. The event drew stars that included Jaimie Lee Presely and Bobb Sapp.
In 2008, WWE Divas Maria and Ashley guest appeared at one of the Playboy Mansion parties hosted by Hugh Hefner.
On 31 May 2008, the Playboy Mansion had its first Wine and Food tasting event called Hollywood and Vino created by George Chung productions. The event featured wines from Hahn Estate, Brassfield Estates and special guests included Peggy Fleming, NFL Star Charles Woodson. Entertainment included Kevin Eubanks and special guest appearance by Arsenio Hall.
In 2008, Playboy Mansion saw the return of the Fight Night on ESPN 2 June 25th at the Mansion promoted by Sycuan Ringside and produced by Executive Producer and Mansion Promoter George Chung.
On 20 September 2008, the Mansion hosted the Strikeforce At The Mansion II event, streamed live on Sherdog. In addition to a full night of MMA action the guests will had an open bar, buffet-style, gourmet dinner; and wine-tasting party featuring the spirits of various California gold medal wineries.
We’re proud to announce one of the most anticipated events of year: Kandy Kruise 2008. That’s right, the three day full-ship charter that people are still talking about is back. The cruise departs Los Angeles on September 15, 2008 and heads to Mexican Riviera for three action-packed days and nights aboard the Carnival Paradise.
There are so many incredible activities planned that we’ll have a hard time listing them, but let’s start with some key details. Only 500 staterooms will be available for gentlemen, while 600 of the staterooms will be filled with Kandy Girls. If you’ve ever been to any of the legendary Kandy parties at the Playboy Mansion, you’ll know what to expect. Once the ship travels the 12 miles to “International Waters,” the real fun begins with gambling, sexy shows and entertainment without any restrictions.
Here are some of the outrageous events you can expect on Kandy Kruise 2008:
Miss Kandy: The sexiest ladies on the boat compete for prizes including a free cruise, cash, modeling contracts and a convertible Mercedes Benz.
World Famous DJs: Cort McCown of Playboy Radio will be hosting nightly parties and concerts featuring Cisco Adler and Skeet Skeet’s Shwayze, DJ Skribble, DJ Ruff, DJ MisterE, DJ Danny Love, Miss Lisa and Steve Kastro
Poker Tournament: Texas Hold’em is the game. Top players will compete in a $2,500-a-seat No-Limit Texas Hold’em Tournament to win fabulous prizes including an exotic car, cash, private yacht and jet charters, and extravagant trips to exclusive destinations.
Night Clubs: The Kandy Kruise features themed lounges by America’s hottest clubs. Remember, Kandy Kruise-goers will take over the whole ship so we can play and party to the extreme without any restrictions.
I go to some of the most amazing parties but I never saw a party like the one I attended on The Kandy Kruise, a three day party cruise from LA to the Mexican Riviera. It was totally SICK!!! There were five hundred guys and fifteen hundred girls (mostly models) on board who were determined to have the best time they possibly could. And they certainly did thanks to sponsors like Playboy Comedy, Fashion TV, Rockstar Energy Drink and Eric Stotz of the Karma Foundation.
The Karma Foundation is an amazing philanthropic organization. Here is a quote from their website, "Where remarkable pay-it-forward people come together to expand their spheres of influence in sensational and elite social environments." Karma is a private membership club where members can network with each other to help achieve their personal goals while using the principles of karma and gratitude. The idea is that the energy you put out is what you bring back into to your life and when you're grateful for what you have received, you do your best to "give back." After each Karma Foundation event, a portion of the money goes to charities such as the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, The Torch Foundation, and Aids Walk Los Angeles.
Working with principles like "Celebration brings out the best in us," the Karma Foundation is dedicated to producing "creative, themed events at luxurious and famed locations." And boy was that true in this case. Eric took over the Royal Caribbean Monarch of the Seas, which is kind of a floating building. That didn't stop it from rocking like a toy boat some of the time, but thank G-d for Dramamine. I didn't get sick even once!
Bryant McGill and Joe Brat
One guy who lives his life the Karma way was my gracious cruise host , an incredible guy named Bryant McGill. Talk about a Renaissance man. This guy does everything and if you don't believe me check out his website at bryantmcgill.com. Bryant is a poet, author, celebrity consultant and publicist. His company, McGill International, consults for Fortune 500 companies, A-list Hollywood personalities and other high-profile entertainers. His personal website has drawn millions of visitors and over 50,000 people regularly read his blog. Not bad work if you can get it!
But most importantly Bryant is a consummate gentleman and all around good guy. The first time I met him he was up at The Comic Strip with Jim Karol. Karol is known as "the psychic madman" and believe me he lives up to the title. Bryant and I connected over esoteric principles like energy work and healing and we spoke for hours while watching Jim Karol throw bolts of electricity up people's butts just by pointing his finger at them. Everyone that goes on the Kandy Kruise also loves Kandy Masquerade.
Bryant called me about a project he was working on for NBC which was not Kandy Masquerade and while we were talking he got the idea to invite me as one of the "celebrity" guests on the Kandy Kruise. He was the celeb/VIP organizer of the cruise so I was definitely "hooked up" as they say in certain small towns in Eastern Europe. I was told I could invite some celeb friends so I called Russell Peters who unfortunately was touring and couldn't make it. I'll see him when he plays Madison Square Garden on February 2, if not before. I'm hoping he'll co-star in the movie I'm writing for Jackie Mason to be filmed in New York next June after Jackie opens his 8th Broadway, The Ultimate Jew, next March. Eight one man shows on Broadway. Incredible. I don't think anyone else has had even done two!
Then I called Scott Baio who would have loved to come except that he was getting ready to shoot the second season of his show Scott Baio is 45 and Single. Baio told me that he was out shopping for cribs for the baby he and girlfriend Renee are expecting so it’s better that he didn't come. I'm glad to see him settling down and happy, but it seems he won't get to enjoy the Kandy Masquerade party.
Paul Provenza, director of The Aristocrats, who also wrote the intro to my book Filthy, Funny, and Totally Offensive, really wanted to come but he was in New York, and couldn't get away. Pauly Shore - I'm still waiting to hear from you! Paul is invited to buy a ticket to Kandy Masquerade.
I was glad that my buddy Joe Brat was free to come. Joe's real name is Joseph McBratney and he took time off of his busy schedule to come and have fun for three days. When we docked back in LA Joe was whisked off to the offices of 3 Ball Entertainment to discuss the new reality show they are planning. Airing Kandy Masquerade on TV would be a great idea. The show is tentatively titled Get Me Joe Brat. In the planned show, Joe will go out and right society's wrongs and bring bad guys to justice. I can't wait to start shooting that show because in the show I'm his "consigliere" and we're joined at the hip. Stay tuned for more.
But back to the cruise: Needless to say the female talent was amazing as exemplified by the incredible Bobbi Billard who surpassed 1.1 million friends on My Space last April. I’m glad that I'm one of them. I'm naming her my Comedy Matters Girl of the Month. for October.
Jeffrey Gurian and Bobbi Billard
Bobbi made a miraculous recovery from surgery after her neck was broken in an altercation with some jealous females during her stint with the WWF. She might have been more fortunate had be attended the Kandy Masquerade. But fortunately that's all in the past and as you can see from the photographs that she looks quite healthy now. I didn't actually wrestle with her, I just took her word about her recovery!
DJ Miss Lisa and Jeffrey Gurian on the Kandy Kruise
The music rocked with at least 15 DJ's including LA's wildman Steve Castro, DJ Skribble and the ultra-hot DJ Miss Lisa who is also an international Playboy Playmate. Miss Lisa was wearing the highest platform shoes, silver lame "monster shoes," that I had ever seen.
Sebastian Maniscalco and Cort McCown on the Kandy Kruise
The LA/Las Vegas comedy scene was well represented on the cruise and I was glad to have the opportunity to meet some of those guys. Cort McCown, a really funny guy who is one of the creators of Playboy Comedy at the Lax Vegas Palms Resort and Casino, was the host of the ship show. He also served as host of the Miss Kandy Kruise competition. Poor guy, it doesn't seem like he got to go to Kandy Masquerade! Cort has also been touring the country with "Dice" Clay, and Harland Williams. Do you have any idea how hard it is to host a show where most of the audience is wasted on Dom Perignon and the girls are hardly wearing any clothing? Well Cort is the man, 'cause he pulled it off.
Also part of Playboy comedy bunch was Paul Hughes, who you may have seen on MTV performing stand-up at Dave Navarro's wedding. Then there was Steve Rannazzisi from MTV's Punk'd, and ABC's hit Big Day. He also just got a lead role starring opposite Eddie Murphy in Paramount's new film Nowhere Land. Sebastian Maniscalco, who recently made his first appearance on Leno, taped a half hour comedy special for Comedy Central, and can be seen in the soon to be released film Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show, was also on board.
Jeffrey Gurian and Josh Nasar on the Kandy Kruise
I also ran into Josh Nasar, stand-up/ TV host/producer of some very hot comedy shows in LA. Lately Josh has been performing at Jamie Masada's Laugh Factory which features all A-list comics like Dane Cook, Chris Rock, Carlos Mencia and Jamie Kennedy. Still no movie of Kandy Masquerade is scheduled to be produced.
But the main event as far as I was concerned was hanging with Rich Granville, founder and CEO of Jack 9 Entertainment, currently the number one IPTV network on the internet. Jack 9 should consider taping Kandy Masquerade on their show. They are the first Internet Protocol Television Network (hence IPTV) and they are capable of hosting millions of viewers at the same time with the capability of putting 1.9 million people on a live streaming Flash video. Rich created IPTV in 2005 as the first true internet television network. Rich is the former chairman and CEO of a publicly traded company called Avana Communications. According to Rich, "We're like Fox in 1986." Their only competition is You Tube. "There are maybe 20 other sites out there in the IPTV arena and I think we have more traffic than all of them combined", he added. He also announced that Gary Busey who was with us on the cruise signed a contract with Jack 9 Entertainment.
Gary Busey and Jeffrey Gurian on the Kandy Kruise
Rich calls Jack 9 his "last hurrah", which is an interesting choice of words for a guy who's still wearing a backwards baseball cap. All I know is that the man is a world class partier with a sense of style and grace, and we have some big plans together that I hope to be able to share with you in the near future. Someone should recommend that Rich go to Kandy Masquerade at the Playboy Mansion.
Jose Jimenez Is Honored
Bill Dana, one of the most beloved comics of all time who I was lucky enough to meet and befriend through my old pal Jackie Mason, is being honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in entertainment on October 11th at Emerson College in Boston.
It was 1959 when Bill uttered the immortal phrase, "My name Jose Jimenez" and it all took off from there. Sadly enough if you tried to create a character like Joe Jimenez today, some PC moron would probably object unless he was caught up in the good times of the Kandy Masquerade party. Star of the eponymous The Bill Dana Show from 1963-1965, Bill became known as a comedian/writer/author/producer and composer. Currently Bill is very involved with his work establishing The American Comedy Archives at Emerson College, his alma mater. Bill is also a big believer in the healing effects of comedy, another thing that we have in common. Bill and I keep in touch periodically by e-mail. Congratulations Bill, and all the best in all that you do!
Boris The Hypnotist, Not Boring
The funny and talented Incredible Boris is one of the rare people in comedy with a dual profession. He is an internationally acclaimed hypnotherapist and a comedian. It makes for an interesting mix. Boris is a regular guest on TV talk shows, especially the Maury Povich Show where he cures people of their phobias while they are on the show. He has another "phobia" Maury appearance coming up.
NY Comedy Festival Talent Search
Jeffrey Gurian and Caroline Hirsch
I got a call from my buddy Bryan Kennedy, a really funny comic who hosts new talent shows at Carolines Comedy Club on Broadway. As part of Carolines' fourth New York Comedy Festival, slated to run from Nov. 6-11th, there will be an exhaustive search for "New York's Funniest Stand-Up" at the club on Oct. 16th. You get two whole minutes to impress the industry judges. I wonder if I'll be one of them. It's an open call from 11 A.M. until 4 P.M. My advice is to leave right now, and camp out, because the line will probably stretch to Europe. Finals will be held on Nov. 5th at 9:30 P.M. in front of industry ( as opposed to in back or on the side of industry) and the winner will receive a cash prize, intros to directors, agents and managers, a week performing at the club and a guest spot on one of the major festival shows. The only problem is if you win you may have to be very rich and famous. And who wants to go to Kandy Masquerade? Raise your hands so I can see them!
Anyway, until next time, remember…… COMEDY MATTERS!!!
New York City club promoter turned club owner John "JE" Englebert who's venues have included QUO nightclub, MYST nightclub, RETOX bar lounge
and PRE:POST restaurant lounge all in NYC took his talent to Los Angeles.
JE hosted the sexiest party of the year Kandyland, similiar to Kandy Masquerade at the Playboy Mansion. Kandyland think Willy Wonka meets Alice in Wonderland. Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion was completely transformed into several sexy environments with extreme lighting effects, florals, huge mushrooms, enormous lollipops, giant kandies, hearts, cool fuzzy cotton kandy textures, kandy cane poles for Kandy Dancers, chocolate bars, Skittles, M&Ms, toys, surprises and much much more.
The invite only tickets start at $1,500.00 and include admission to Kandyland at the Playboy Mansion , full open bar all night, food, desserts, entertainment shows, naked girls, and a donation to Marconi Foundation for Kids.
1200 half naked girls plus another 600 guy high priced $1500 ticket buyers seen at the Mansion party amongst other: Pornstars Ron Jeremy and Angelique Morgan, Singer Prince, Professional boxer Andrew Gulotta, and Claudia Jordan along with Playboy Mansion King Hugh Heffner and young brother Keith Heffner of course overseeing the festivities.
Kandyland II at the Playboy Mansion
Have you always wanted to see the inside of the Playboy Mansion? Well you won't see what it usually looks like, but you can see Hugh Heffner's infamous playground transformed into Kandyland II and on another date, Kandy Masquerade: An Evening of Decadent Dreams on June 23, 2007. The event is promoted as a cross between Willie Wonka and Alice in Wonderland, with giant mushrooms, huge lollipops, candy-striped poles for Kandy Dancers and cellophane-wrapped girls passing out candy treats. There will also be DJs, dancing and, of course, Playboy Playmates.
The party at the Playboy Mansion is just one component of a weekend of debauchery. Promoters Dask Productions and The KARMA Foundation have booked the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for the whole weekend so their guests can party from Friday night through Sunday.
Hugh Hefner, 82, has created an erotic empire based around the famous Playboy lifestyle and a little bunny with a bow tie. Some may call the magazine's softly lit pictorials of curvaceous women sprawled out in sexy positions porn. Hefner calls it erotica.
Hef, as he likes to be called, has never been ashamed to be known as a womanizing party animal, a man who proudly lounges in silk robes with nothing underneath. In fact, although he is living with his three girlfriends—Holly, Bridget, and Kendra—he never actually divorced his last wife, former playmate Kimberly Conrad. He separated from Conrad in 1999 after the pair had two sons. You may or may not see Kimberly at the Kandy Masquerade
Hef is like any normal hot-blooded American who likes pretty ladies: He took a wife or two, has four kids, and lives in a Tudor-style mansion with luscious lawns and a personal zoo. Sounds like any old family man, right? Except this doting dad kicked his son out and boxed up his room when he turned 18 because he was afraid he would sleep with the Playmates. You don't do Daddy's ladies—house rules. There is no doubt you will love attending Kandy Masquerade
Hef may be a territorial man's man, but he's actually calmed down in his old age. His harem, which used to number seven women, has dwindled to three—all stars of E! reality series The Girls Next Door, which debuts its fifth season next week.
The show, which focuses on the day-to-day adventures of Hef's three lady friends, is a lighthearted look at life in the famous manse. Still, off camera, not everything is smooth as a Playmate's airbrushed naughty bits. Recently, rumors have emerged that both Holly and Kendra are involved in other relationships. (And Bridget is still technically married!) Though Hefner maintains that Holly "shares his bed nightly,".
So how can you get noticed and optimize your chances for breaking into Hef's world? I suggest you attend Kandy Masquerade and find out for yourself!
